Woven Voices: A Wearable Installation

Role

Lead Designer & Engineer

Project Highlights

Designed and fabricated a lotus-inspired dress embedded with seven LED-lit flowers that respond to participant proximity.

Developed interactive behaviors where flowers bloom and wilt based on real-time distance sensing to symbolize human connection and support.

Programmed sensors and LEDs using Arduino and integrated lighting choreography to respond dynamically to participants.

Combined mechanical design, electronics, and artistic expression into a fully functional wearable installation.

Presented final piece publicly, demonstrating a seamless integration of technology, storytelling, and interactive design.

Woven Voices - Instructable

Woven Voices is a wearable technology installation that blends storytelling, interactive design, and artistic expression. Inspired by the resilience of the lotus flower, the project explores overcoming adversity through human connection.

Participants interact with the wearable installation, causing LED-lit flowers to bloom brighter when they approach and wilt as they move away. This dynamic response reinforces the theme of support, presence, and authentic connection.

As the lead designer and engineer, I conceptualized the design, fabricated the wearable, and integrated the electronics and programming to create a fully interactive experience. The final installation demonstrates the intersection of technology, art, and human-centered design, serving as the culmination of my engineering education.
